In 1920, the difference in life expectancy between men and women was one year. By 2014, that difference increased to five years, with men being at greater risk of death in every age group. Despite these reports, most gender-based health research is largely focused on women, with fewer and fewer resources devoted to studying men. Given these alarming statistics and their long-term consequences for the health and well-being of men and their families, investing in research, education, and clinical care to reverse this trend has become imperative.

The UNC Men’s Health Program will bring together multi-disciplinary physician-scientists, public health leaders, and other providers dedicated to the well-being and health of men through a program of clinical care, scientific research, and community outreach.
